MTD Capital Bhd, a civil engineering and construction concern, is expected to complete the East Coast Expressway 2 project package ten (ECE 2) by May or June 2011.

Its chief executive officer, Datuk Azmil Khalid, said the RM1.45 billion project faced tremendous challenges from high fluctuations in costs, shortage in raw materials and adverse weather conditions.

However, MTD has now completed 60% of the project and hopes to complete the rest before the expected date of completion.

Azmil added that MTD was now focused on completing existing projects. "We have not bid for more projects, but if there is a project where we believe it will be of great value, then the company will bid for it," Azmil told reporters after the company's annual general meeting (AGM) yesterday.

On its overseas project, he said that MTD expects to complete the RM800 million South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) project in Philipines by March next year.

Azmil added that a team will go to inspect possible damages to the project from the recent flooding in the area.

Although SLEX has affected by the volatility in building material prices and unfavourable weather conditions, 70% of works has been completed to date.

Azmil said the company expects to complete its US$40 million (RM140 million) coal port facility development in Indonesia by September 2010 as 30% of works has been completed.

MTD has yet to start construction of the RM1.5 billion valued toll road project in West Jawa, Indonesia.

"We are hoping to start the project soon as the Indonesia government is still looking to acquire land for the project," he added.
